Naples, Florida, June 26, 2017, Seventeen miles off the coast of Naples, Florida USA, an “Art Reef” will be deployed. It is the first of its kind to be installed in the entire world. The name “Art Reef” refers to both an artificial reef and a work of art, and it is a metaphor of humankind’s will of preserving our planet and civilization.

This first installment of Vito Di Bari’s series of The Art Reef Project will be comprised of 34 underwater marine life habitats placed on the Gulf bottom as a new addition to the already existing thirty-six reefs of the City of Naples’ Paradise Reef Project. In order to commemorate an iconic symbol of the local marine habitat, Di Bari’s design will be in the shape of the threatened and endangered sea turtle.

Vito Di Bari is an innovation designer who is changing the world through his cutting edge design solutions. He was named the Innovation Designer for the Expo 2015 by the City of Milan and has been the Executive Director at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris. The Financial Times defined him as the “New European Guru of Innovation”.

Di Bari first announced Art Reef at TEDxMarrakesh in 2013, and it was patronized by Eve and Vanessa Branson, ecological philanthropists, and respectively, mother and sister of Sir Richard Branson. The Art Reef Project may happen all over the world, as one project but always different, because it will always represent native human civilizations, flora and fauna unique to each respective location.

Once completed, The Art Reef Project aims to be one of the few man-made structures visible from orbit. “It’s a message in a bottle” says Di Bari, “for men of good will on Earth…and beyond. Footprints of humanity that might otherwise never become a legacy.”
