Baltimore, Maryland, April 9, 2019, It doesn’t take long before baseball fans start to show their displeasure with a ballplayer falling into a batting slump. Such is the case with Baltimore Oriole fans and the lack of hits by Chris Davis. He signed a lucrative contract with the Orioles, but so far has failed to deliver any spectacular results, and the fans are getting very annoyed. In fact, during last Thursday’s home opener, he was booed resoundingly by the home fans.
It is vital that the fans show they are behind Chris Davis, as he could use their moral support. It will energize his efforts. By going hitless in five trips to the plate during Baltimore’s 12-4 win over the A’s on Monday, Davis stretched his hitless streak to a Major League-record 49 consecutive at-bats dating back to last season. Davis lined out three times to set the mark, which Velez held since the 2011 season, then struck out looking in his final two at-bats to extend it. All told, his at-bats took center stage on a night the Orioles set some history of their own while snapping a four-game losing streak.

The 33-year-old first baseman is under contract with the Orioles through 2022. He has said repeatedly that he won’t quit, and Orioles officials have consistently expressed support for Davis over the past weeks and months.
